The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia (ICA), Mr. Ahmed Said Mohamed, led a delegation to the United Kingdom that had crucial talks with representatives from the UK’s Home Office, Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth & Development Office, and HM Passport Office.
The delegation’s visit was intended to foster close collaboration and strengthen ties between the ICA and its counterpart in the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on issues related to immigration, the recognition of Somali passports, and capacity building.
The ICA delegate requested from the UK representatives to expedite the recognition process of Somali passports, which the UK officials granted, and suggested recognising diplomatic passports as an initial stage. And as part of the recognition process, parties agreed to convene in Somalia within two months to have more talks and assess the Somali passport in its entirety.
ICA has focused worldwide engagement with its counterparts to improve the standing Somali passport.
