Tunis, Tunisia — The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia (ICA), Mr. Ahmed Said Mohamed, and his delegation took part in the 21st Annual Session of Heads of Immigration & Citizenship Agencies of Arab League Member States. This crucial gathering focused on pivotal issues including the control of fake travel documents and the challenge of illegal immigration.
Held in Tunis, the session brought together representatives from across the Arab League to engage in robust discussions and foster collaborative efforts to address these pressing concerns. The meeting underscored the importance of regional cooperation in enhancing the security and integrity of immigration systems.
A major highlight of this year’s session was the decision to establish a technical committee dedicated to developing a shared platform for information-sharing among Arab League member states. This initiative aims to bolster coordination and enable the real-time exchange of intelligence on immigration-related matters. Such a platform is expected to significantly enhance the region’s ability to detect and prevent the use of fraudulent travel documents and to manage illegal immigration more effectively.
The Somali delegation, under the leadership of DG Ahmed Said Mohamed, actively participated in the deliberations. They shared Somalia’s experiences and best practices in tackling similar challenges, offering valuable insights that enriched the discussions. Mr. Mohamed emphasized the importance of collective action and knowledge-sharing in addressing the multifaceted issues surrounding immigration and citizenship.
“We are committed to working closely with our Arab League counterparts to ensure the security and integrity of our borders. Sharing our experiences and learning from each other is crucial in our fight against illegal immigration and document fraud,” said Mr. Mohamed.
The session concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and determination among the participants to implement concrete measures that will strengthen the region’s immigration systems. The collaborative spirit and commitment demonstrated at the meeting underscore the collective resolve of the Arab League member states to safeguard their borders and ensure the integrity of their immigration processes.
As the technical committee begins its work on the shared information platform, member states are optimistic that this initiative will lead to significant advancements in regional security and cooperation. The outcomes of this session are expected to pave the way for more integrated and effective immigration management across the Arab League.
