Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency Concludes Crucial Meeting to Establish Inter-Agency Border Management Committee

[May 03, 2024]

The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia has successfully concluded a crucial two-day meeting aimed at establishing the Inter-Agency Border Management Committee (IBMC) for the regions of Beled-Hawo and Dolow. This committee is poised to play a pivotal role in ensuring robust border security and facilitating the seamless movement of people and goods.

At conclusion of meeting, Deputy Director General Mr. Hussein Abdullahi Sheikh delivered closing remarks, praising and encouraging officers to cooperate and collaborate effectively to ensure the safety and efficient movement of individuals and commodities across the border.

This meeting follows a similar technical gathering held in February, which saw the establishment of the Joint Inter-agency Border Management Committee (IBMC) for the border posts of Dhobley and Raskambone. The primary objective of the IBMC is to foster coordinated efforts among government agencies, including the Immigration and Citizenship Agency(ICA), National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Regional Administration, and the Police.

The creation of the IBMC underscores Somalia’s commitment to enhancing border management practices and upholding international standards of security and integrity. By promoting collaboration and synergy among relevant stakeholders, the IBMC aims to facilitate lawful trade and travel while mitigating security risks and illicit activities along the border.
