A team of officers from the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of Somalia recently took part in a month-long training program organized jointly by the governments of Italy and Egypt. The training which tookplace from April to May brought together a total of 60 officers from 21 African countries.

The comprehensive training program, which was hosted in Egypt, covered topics such as counter-trafficking in persons, enhancing border management and control skills, detecting fraudulent travel documents, and following deportation procedures.

The training sessions were delivered by subject matter experts from the participating countries, as well as international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The participation of ICA Somalia officers in the training underscores the country’s commitment to enhancing migration governance and protecting vulnerable populations. The knowledge and skills gained will be instrumental in informing Somalia’s ongoing efforts to secure its borders, disrupt trafficking networks, and provide dignified assistance to migrants and refugees.
