ICA Somalia Launches Inter-Agency Border Management Committee in Garowe to Enhance Border Cooperation in Puntland

Garowe, Somalia – The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia today launched a meeting in Garowe to establish an Inter-Agency Border Management Committee (IBMC) aimed at strengthening border cooperation in Puntland. The committee will work across agencies to ensure smooth movement of people and goods, prioritizing security, data sharing, and trade facilitation.

 

The meeting was opened by ICA Somalia’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Hussein Abdullahi Sheikh, who highlighted the need for collective and coordinated efforts to secure borders and facilitate legitimate movement. He emphasized the importance of data-sharing mechanisms and regular joint meetings among agencies to enhance effectiveness.

 

The formation of the IBMC is expected to enhance the operational capacity of border agencies and foster an environment of mutual support. ICA Somalia remains committed to promoting secure, open, and economically productive borders in collaboration with regional and international partners.
