A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the enrollment centre of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia (ICA) took place in Kismayo. The President of Jubbaland State, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia (ICA), Mr. Abdulkadir Elmi Ali, as well as local MPs and other distinguished guests, attended this inauguration. The newly built facility is a two-story building with administration and customer service offices.
In his opening remarks, President Islam emphasised the importance of bringing government services closer to the people in Jubbaland. He also pointed out that both the country and the state residents will benefit from the services offered by the ICA in Kismayo, especially considering the state’s geographical area, as it shares a border with Kenya.
During his inaugural remarks, the ICA’s Director General, Mr. Ali said “that the new building and inauguration of the ICA’s enrollment centre in Kismayo are part of the ICA’s larger plan to develop border entry lines and sections in other Federal Member States.” He added, “This project aims to improve ICA accessibility and service delivery.”
This new enrolment centre will be an addition to the ICA’s Branch Two in Jubbaland, and the authorities hope that it will play a significant role in future collaboration between Somalia and Kenya, particularly at the border entry points, to effectively monitor the movement of people and goods crossing between the two countries.
